Great Star of Africa
The ‘Great Star of Africa’ or the Cullinan I Diamond was cut from the Cullinan diamond, which was discovered in Pretoria, South Africa in 1905. Weighing 530.4 carats, this is the largest polished white diamond in the world. It is a pear shaped diamond and is set in the head of ‘Sovereign’s Sceptre With Cross’.
Orloff Diamond
A discovery of India, Orloff diamond is one of the most unique discovery in the world of jewelry. Weighing approximately 200 carat, it is a half egg shaped rose cut diamond having one flat side. Unearthed from the Kollur mine in South India, this diamond was mounted on the idol of Sri Ranganathaswamy, Tamil Nadu and was stolen by a French soldier and after a series of events was ultimately purchased by Russian prince, Gregory Orloff. Currently, Orloff diamond is part of the Diamond Fund of Moscow Kremlin.
The Centenary Diamond
The Centenary diamond weighs 273.85 carat and is again mined from the Premier mines, South Africa. Discovered in the year 1986, it was given to De Beers Consolidated mines in the year 1988 for its centennial celebration, hence the name Centenary Diamond. In 1991, it was ultimately unveiled in its final form.
Koh-I-Noor Diamond
Koh-I-Noor or the Mountain of Light is one of the oldest diamonds found ever. It is one gem that is associated with a long history that dates back to the 13th Century. Excavated from the Kollur mine in India, this diamond weighs around 105.6 carats and now is part of the Crown Jewels in the United Kingdom and mesmerizes millions in the Tower of London every year.
The Hope Diamond
Hope diamond is a dark blue colored diamond that is all things beautiful and gorgeous. Excavated in India, this gem weighs 45.52 carats and was considered a bad omen. Currently, it is set on display in the Smithsonian Institute, Washington.
